A Look Ahead to 2022 and Your SEO Plan

Happy New Year!  As we move into 2022, it is time to look back on the challenges of 2021 and make a plan to move forward in 2022, making it the best year ever for your business!

The Challenging Year

One word that stands out as we review 2021 is “challenging.”  Between the pandemic, lockdowns, new regulations, and other issues, this year has been difficult for many.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 6.2 million Americans lost their jobs or were unable to work due to the pandemic, while millions of businesses suffered from labor shortages and lost business from inflation and other factors.

The news is not all bad, however.  2022 promises to be a better year in terms of businesses being able to return to pre-pandemic levels, although restrictions and safety measures will still be in place.  We are learning, as a nation, to work our way through the maze of COVID-related issues, and businesses are leading the way in this fight.

Planning SEO for 2022

Because things are changing so rapidly, this New Year will be a good time to examine your SEO plan and determine if it is still meeting your business’s needs or if there need to change.  In many cases, small changes to your SEO strategy can help you meet the challenges of the coming year.  For example:

  • Review your overall SEO plan for your target audience. If your target client has suddenly become homebound due to lockdowns or other measures, consider targeting with specific advertising for “virtual” calls or appointments.  Many people appreciate this option and will take the opportunity to connect with you via a virtual platform.  However, if your website does not reflect this capability, many potential clients may keep scrolling to find a business that does!
  • Consider your targeted keywords. Keyword targets change frequently as new pressures are put on businesses from ever-changing realities.  It pays to examine your keyword saturation and targeting regularly to ensure you have the right plan to reach the clients you want to reach.
  • Think about your content. Fresh, relative content is key to getting noticed online, but many businesses have not changed their website content in a decade!  In order to establish yourself as a forward-moving business that can adapt to changing times, it pays to think about what you are putting on your website.  Are you blogging or using social media regularly to refresh your content?  Are you reviewing your pages and contact systems to ensure that you have what is needed for your clients?
