Avoid These Mistakes in Email Marketing

In today’s world of marketing, email marketing is an essential component to just about any campaign. With that in mind, we’ll share in this article a few common mistakes that can quickly destroy any chance of getting the recipient to check out a business.

Don’t overhype your subject line

It’s fine to use the subject line to draw the recipient in, but if it becomes habit to lure them to an email that has very little substance and doesn’t live up to the hype, your future messages will most likely end up in the spam folder.

Don’t let your name in the email header read “noreply” or “admin.”

Even though the “e” in email marketing stands for electronic, people still want to interact with actual people rather than their in boxes. Remember, your business emails are an opportunity for engagement, so have the replies routed to support staff who can answer questions.

Give it personality

People who signed up to be on your email list did so for a reason. Much of that probably has to do with the personality of your business, your point of view or your unique voice. Let all of that shine through in your emails.

Don’t go overboard with the Calls-to-Action.

Having more than one calls-to-action can easily gum up the works and leave the potential customer confused. It also makes it more difficult for you to gauge how effective that particular email was because there was so much going on.

Instead, keep it simple by using a single call-to-action. That way, you can really hone the message well.

Brevity is king

Keep it short and simple. Just identify your goal and write a short engaging message that’s fun or interesting to read and leaves the reader with absolutely no doubt what the next step is.
